1906 World Series

Well, what do you know. I'm back.

I haven't even been on WhatIfSports in about eight months. So needless to say I haven't even come close to thinking about this blog.
But I shall carry on nevertheless.

This one was the Chicago White Sox versus the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs were coming off the best season in major league history (still is today), but the White Sox would win 4 games to 2. All was not lost for the Cubs, as they'd win in 1908... and that was it. The White Sox would win a few more until 1917, when they went on their epic 88 year drought that ended in 2005.

To the simulation!

(The player of the game is from the winning team unless noted)

GAME 1
White Sox (Nick Altrock) at Cubs (Mordecai Brown)

White Sox 9
Cubs 4

W - Altrock, L - Brown, S - none
HR - none
Player of Game - George Davis with 5 RBI's
Notes - Sox score 6 runs in the 2nd inning; Cubs had more hits (13-11)

GAME 2
Cubs (Ed Reulbach) at White Sox (Doc White)

Cubs 6
White Sox 2
(12 innings)

W - Orval Overall, L - Frank Owen
HR - none
Player of Game - Joe Tinker with 3 RBI's
Notes - Cubs scored 2 runs in top of 9th to come back

GAME 3
White Sox (Ed Walsh) at Cubs (Jack Pfiester)

White Sox 4
Cubs 3

W - Walsh, L - Fred Beebe
HR - none
Player of Game - Ed Walsh with complete game victory
Notes - The series' first 3 games have been exactly the same (not scorewise) as the real series. Makes you wonder why away teams did so well...

GAME 4
Cubs (Mordecai Brown) at White Sox (Nick Altrock)

Cubs 3
White Sox 8

W - Altrock, L - Brown
HR - none
Player of Game - Nick Altrock with complete game victory
Notes - Cubs outhit White Sox (12-11)

GAME 5
White Sox (Ed Walsh) at Cubs (Ed Reulbach)

White Sox 3
Cubs 4
12 innings

W - Jack Pfiester, L - Roy Patterson
HR - Frank Schulte (Cubs, 12th)
Player of Game - Frank Schulte with walkoff HR
Boxscore (since this one was epic) -
SOX 000 000 201 000 - 3 7 2
CUB 000 000 003 001 - 4 9 1
Notes - The real series was also 3-2 Sox at this point; 9 total pitchers.

GAME 6
Cubs (Mordecai Brown) at White Sox (Doc White)

Cubs 4
White Sox 3

W - Brown, L - White
HR - none
Player of Game - Mordecai Brown with complete game victory
Notes - There were nine total hits and five total errors in this game.

GAME 7
White Sox (Nick Altrock) at Cubs (Jack Pfiester)

White Sox 6
Cubs 4
12 innings

W - Ed Walsh, L - Ed Reulbach, S - Roy Patterson
HR - none
Player of Game - Ed Hahn with game winning RBI
Notes - All 4 of the Cubs' runs were scored in the 7th inning; I took a wild guess at who the starting pitchers were because there wasn't a Game 7.

WHITE SOX WIN SERIES, 4 GAMES TO 3
MVP of series - Nick Altrock (2-0 in 3 starts)

Thus, the White Sox once again deny the Cubs from being the greatest team of all time. I guess the 1906 National League was way too easy.

Let the debating begin!

ATTENTION: Starting in the 1910 World Series, I will post the boxscores and allow readers to vote for the series MVP.

1905 World Series

The reign of terror is over! The Boston Americans are no longer the champions! But will the New York Giants be able to get revenge by beating the Philadelphia Athletics, or will the A's prove that the AL is in fact superior? It's the two greatest managers of all time - John McGraw vs. Connie Mack - in this 1905 throwdown!

NOTE: In the real series, the Philadelphia Athletics scored only 3 runs, all of them unearned.

REAL SERIES SCORE - Giants 4, Athletics 1

I'll be going by present-day hosting format.

GAME 1

Player of the Game - Dan McGann (3 RBI)

GAME 5
at New York

Weldon Henley (PHI)
Hooks Wiltse (NYG)

GAME 6
at Philadelphia

Eddie Plank (PHI)

Athletics 7, Giants 3

HR: none

W - Eddie Plank
L - Joe McGinnity

Player of the Game - Eddie Plank (W, CG)

ATHLETICS WIN SERIES, 4-2
Series MVP - Eddie Plank (2-0, 2 CG)

AL 3, NL 0. Not the way many historians planned it to go. At this point in real life, it was AL 1, NL 1. The pure dominance of Eddie Plank (PHI) has earned him MVP honors. He went 2-0 and got 2 complete games. Not very many pitchers get 2 complete games all season these days. However, second place surely belongs to Socks Seybold (PHI) for becoming the first player in World Series history to hit 2 home runs in a series.
NEXT TIME ON WORLD SERIES REDO - The Chicago Cubs take on the Chicago White Sox in a "Subway Series" of sorts! Don't miss out on the chance to see if the AL really is superior!

AMERICANS WIN SERIES, 4-2

Series MVP: Red Ames/Bill Dinneen

Well, the Americans are superior to baseball. So much for that "already world champions" John McGraw tried to pull off. That's it for now. Oh yeah, and please vote for the series MVP winner, because from now on, your votes make up 50% of the voting!

Series MVP: Cy Young

---

Wow, what a difference THAT makes. Boston takes the final 3 games of the series to win 5-3. SOUND FAMILIAR? It almost seems as if I've wasted an hour of my life. Let's hope that the next 100+ attempts succeed.

Intro

Just imagine the headlines:

"GIBSON WALKS" - 1988
"BERRA ROBS MAZEROSKI" - 1960
"CARTER STRIKES OUT" - 1993
"RIVIERA HOLDS OFF D'BACKS" - 2001
"PIRATES UPSET YANKEES" - 1927
"CUBS WIN AGAIN" - 1945
"YANKS SWEEP SOX" - 2004

Can you even imagine...

Well, now it's possible. This blog will redo every world series ever played, and - beginning with the 1969 postseason - will redo the entire postseason. The possibilities are virtually endless - it would go to 31 digits even if we just did World Series.

Oh, and be sure to call a redo on the ones that go wrong - for example, the Cardinals winning the 2006 World Series... oh wait, that really happened!
